- Chain drive - The most widely used type of opener. Like the name suggests, these use a chain system to operate the door. Chain drive openers are usually the most affordable
- Belt drive - These are usually more expensive than chain drive systems, but are perferred by because they are the quietest type available. The lack of noise is due to the fact they use a rubber belt to move the door
- Screw drive - This system is the smoothest operating type of opener. They are also known to be the most durable of the three types of systems. These operate on a long, threaded bar and have the least moving parts.
